The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was established in the year 1988. The M. Pharm. program in Pharmaceutical Chemistry was initiated in the same year and aimed to deliver expertise in the emerging areas of Drug Discovery, Drug Design, Develop documentation/Research writing expertise. The programme is also committed to deliver skills in the innovative processes for the manufacturing of drug and drug intermediates and their quality assurance using sophisticated instruments. Our objective is Hit to Lead and Lead Optimization, Innovative Process Development for the Synthesis, Drugs and Drug Intermediates, API Handling and Patent and Regulatory Affairs. The programme also deals with In silico drug design and development of novel chemotherapeutic and neurobehavioral agents. Custom synthesis based on various biological targets. Polymeric Drug design. Isolation, characterization and evaluation of bioactive constituents from natural sources.

After completing the M. Pharm (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) programme, the students can get opportunity to work in various Pharmaceutical Industries in Research and Development, Quality control and manufacturing areas.

Dr. R. Kalirajan has 25 years of teaching and research experience. Currently he is working as an Associate professor & HoD at JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty, Since July 2006, under JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (Deemed to be University), Mysuru .He has completed his Ph.D in the year 2013 and he is an approved guide for Ph.D under JSS University, Mysuru. Published 130 research papers in various reputed national and International journals with the impact factor range of 0.1 to 7.1 and has H-index - 17 by Scopus and also 13 patents. Rs. 14.35 lakhs Received from MHRD and AICTE for Phase-II of Drug Discovery Hackathon for COVID-19 Drug discovery, entitled “Optimization, design and synthesis of novel lead molecules against multiple targets of SARS CoV-2”.
