Dr. Ramith Ramu, an accomplished researcher and Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics at JSS AHER, aims to advance scientific knowledge in the fields of phytochemistry, food chemistry, and probiotics, with a focus on diabetes management. With over 150 peer-reviewed publications, prestigious research grants from ICMR, UGC, and JSS AHER, and recognition among Stanford University's top 2% scientists (2022-2024), Dr. Ramith is committed to impactful research and mentorship. He actively seeks to collaborate with prospective doctoral candidates to explore innovative solutions for global health challenges through interdisciplinary research and academic excellence.
Dr. Ramith Ramu is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics at JSS Academy of Higher Education & Research (JSS AHER), Mysore, India, a position he has held since August 2018. He earned his Ph.D. from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, India, with his research focusing on the 'Investigation of Banana (Musa sp. Var. Nanjangud Rasabale) Flower and Pseudostem in the Management of Hyperglycemia.' During his doctoral studies, he received a Teaching Assistantship from TEQIP, New Delhi, to teach and pursue research at SJCE College, Mysore.
With over 150 research publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Ramith has been recognized among Stanford University’s top 2% scientists in 2022-2024 by Elsevier Scopus. He previously served as an Assistant Professor at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Post Graduation Centre, Ujire, from 2015 to 2018, and as a Quality Control Officer at Jubilant Life Sciences, Nanjangud, from 2009 to 2011.
In recognition of his significant contributions to research, he has been awarded several prestigious grants, including an ICMR extramural grant of ?48.5 Lakhs to develop an antimycotic gel against Candida, and a UGC-MRP grant to study the neuroprotective effects of banana pseudostem. Additionally, JSS AHER has funded his research on understanding the molecular and cellular basis of hyperglycemia through food-derived molecules.
Dr. Ramith was awarded the Science Academies (IASc-INSA-NASI) Summer Research Fellowship in 2019 for his work at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and has also received a CSIR travel grant to present his findings at the International Conference on Food Chemistry in Dresden, Germany. He is currently a Research Fellow at INTI International University, Malaysia.
His research interests include phytochemistry, food chemistry, and probiotics, with a specific focus on diabetes management. He is currently supervising four Ph.D. students and has successfully guided three others.
