A one-day workshop titled “Demlearn:Dementia Recognition, Minimum Cognitive Impairment in the Community, and Management” was held at School of Public Health on May 3rd, 2025. The event was conducted by Dr Prathiba Pereira and Dr Ajay Sharma, both experienced professionals in the field of geriatrics and community mental health. The workshop aimed to enhance awareness among faculties and students of Public Health Professionals to identify early signs of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in the community setting. Workshop included: Understanding Dementia and MCI: An overview of dementia types, risk factors, early signs, and progression. Community-based detection and tools: Introduction to effective screening tools with focus on General Practitioner Assessment of Cognition (GPCOG), Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA), and Hindi Mental State Examination (HMSE). Participants were trained on administering the tool and interpreting results. Interactive Learning: Hands-on practice using the different tools, case study discussion, and interactive Q&A sessions helped practical understanding. Participants were encouraged to perform routine cognitive screening in older adults.
